Jones, Jr. and Demus L. Thompson. From among the Council, one member is bi-annually designated as Mayor Pro-Tempore whose function is to preside at the meetings and otherwise assume the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor in his absence. Councilman George W. Ballou is in his first four year term on the Council and is currently designated as Mayor Pro Tempore. He was sworn into office December, 2005 and his current term ends in 2009.
