Morehead City Council

The Morehead City Council Members standing left to right are John F. Nelson, Paul W. Cordova, and David Horton. Seated left to right are George W. Ballou, Mayor Gerald A. Jones, Jr. and Demus L. Thompson. From among the Council, one member is bi-annually designated as Mayor Pro-Tempore whose function is to preside at the meetings and otherwise assume the duties and responsibilities of the Mayor in his absence.

 Councilman George W. Ballou is in his first four year term on the Council and is currently designated as Mayor Pro Tempore.  He was sworn into office December, 2005 and his current term ends in 2009. Councilman Ballou is co-owner of Ballou and Sons, Inc., co-owner of Mayberry Storage Rentals and trustee of Ballou Mobile Home Park in Morehead City. Councilman Paul W. Cordova is the longest tenured member in terms of cumulative service to Morehead City. He has been elected to serve ten times for a total of  fourty years when his current term ends in 2011. Councilman Demus L. Thompson is in his third four-year term on the Council. He was originally sworn into office in December, 1997 and his current term ends in 2009.
